Do you want to have a barrier-free holiday? Then you have come to the right place! We are a German family who have lived for several generations on the Le Colombié farm in Payrac, located in the Lot in the south-west of France. It is located in the heart of a karst landscape above the Dordogne in Quercy on the edge of Périgord!
We rent cottages accessible to people with reduced mobility in a paradisiacal environment in the South-West of France. In the heart of a magnificent landscape, our holiday homes offer you comfort, peace and relaxation with a private swimming pool and sauna. A tennis, pétanque and horse-riding ground as well as a large swimming and fishing pond are also available for all our tenants. We have built our holiday homes in such a way that they are accessible for all people in wheelchairs, depending on the architectural possibilities and the landscape. They are especially suitable for people with disabilities who are accompanied by a third party. If you are traveling alone, we ask you to request prior consultation so that we can choose the lodge best suited to your needs.
If you need special equipment / material, we will use a specialist shop that rents the appropriate equipment. Let us know in advance and we will provide what you need!
Our barrier-free holiday homes are built on the ground floor in such a way that the following conditions exist:
- The bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens and terraces have no steps and are so spacious that people in wheelchairs can move around freely and without difficulty.
- The width of the doors has also been adapted for wheelchairs
- As well as showers and toilets
- Toilets and showers are spacious and on the same level
- The sinks are also accessible and have a large mirror attached to the edge of the sink
- People in a wheelchair can easily sit at the dining table
- If necessary, the height of the bed can be adjusted to 50cm.
- The kitchen worktop not having space for the passage of the wheelchair, the help of a mobile person is necessary
The swimming pools are also easily accessible by wheelchair.
The toilets at the OWI gîte are accessible from the right (when placed in front of the toilets). The WC next to the swimming pool and the sauna is slightly higher and accessible from the left.
The Marrakech holiday home has a bathroom with WC adjoining the bedroom. A shared toilet, also located on the ground floor, is accessible from the right.
The toilets at the Fisherman’s Cabin are accessible from the bedroom and also include a small shower. The sauna toilets are accessible from the right.
Some of the lodgings are on partly sloping grounds. People in wheelchairs will find it difficult to climb some climbs, so the presence of a third party is necessary. The surroundings are also relatively hilly: the help of a third party is therefore necessary as long as one is not traveling by car.
Our region offers many tourist activities accessible to people with reduced mobility. The presence of a third person is nevertheless necessary. The region is hilly, the historic medieval towns have cobbled streets and some tourist sites can be reached by steps. But often, ramps and lifts to help disabled people have been installed, as in Rocamadour.
Thanks to our knowledge, we will give you the best tips to guarantee you the most pleasant holidays and if we are not able to help you, we will make you benefit from our excellent contacts on site.
- Regarding the visit of caves or medieval towns, we advise you to consult us beforehand as not all places are easily accessible for people in wheelchairs. However, we are familiar with most of these places so we can help you plan tours or even inquire for you.
- Handbike tours are perfectly possible in the valleys. For example on the road to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle in Dordogne
- We regularly organize for our tenants a canoe trip and a barbecue on the Dordogne, people in wheelchairs can also accompany us. With the help of canoe rental companies, the canoe is rearranged according to the needs of the disabled person.
- The presence of a third party is required to visit cities, especially historic sites. However, it is not essential to have a second person by your side for shopping in the area.
